"Antifreeze Kills" Petition

Llewtrah's Soapbox reports:

Antifreeze (ethylene glycol) is highly toxic and it has a taste that is attractive to some animals. As well as accidental poisonings, it has sometimes been used deliberately to poison animals including domestic pets. There is a Downing Street petition to make antifreeze safe. "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Enforce that the manufactures of engine coolant and antifreeze to contain a bittering agent"

And why exactly should the government be involved?

Its not the government's place to say how people should make their products. Not in a liberal society anyway. In a Tory one it is of course.

Isn't there a danger that if you make it less sweet people will assume it is French wine?

(Oops - missed the comments.)

Thanks Tristan. I'm sure someone in new Labour is drawing up plans to ban everything that could possibly harm anyone. "Political correctness gone mad" springs to mind.
